TATE

If you think like me the first thing that came to mind was Terry Tate, Office Linebacker. If you kill the jo, you make some mo! Memories of Terry Tate have gotton me through many slow days at the office over the past few months.

Thats not what this is about though. One idea that I have had when planning to be away for so long is to start the Trans-Atlantic Trans-Equatorial (TATE) book club. I've never been in a book club so I don't really know how they work, but the concept for TATE is that I tell you what book I am getting ready to read and then you read the book with me. My access to English language books will be somewhat limited so I'll just make a decree as to what book is next on the docket. I decided that I will want to write about books I am reading so why not include anyone who is interested in the dialogue. Clearly, this might be a terrible idea that never really takes off, but once I though of the name I had to throw it out there. I'm only packing a few books because of weight and space restrictions but I am very excited about the first selections that TATE will tackle. Here is the tentative order of my initial reading: The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, Under the Overpass by Mike Yankoski, and Till We Have Faces by CS Lewis. Final decisions are forthcoming but I might also pack Dr. Zhivago by Boris Pasternak, Confessions by St. Augustine and Perelandra by CS Lewis. The last two would be rereads for me, but they are excellent books. I am hoping to track down the Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter series once I am in Namibia.

I hope some of you will read with me as you can and engage in lively debate about the books and my random social commentary that is inevitable.

Coming soon... Namibian history in a nutshell

Brock, The Alchemist is a super book. It's a quick read, but it's really deep and I loved it--very philosophical! You'll have to say what you think of it...
